Foundations of Type

In this in-depth 10 week (30 hour) course, we'll be walking you through the process of designing a typeface with the Glyphs app.
Participants will immerse themselves in letterforms, exploring calligraphy and sketching, concept development and the type design process. This course is designed for those without advance knowledge of type design, however, participants should have a general understanding design principles.

Materials
Physical
- Markers and fineliners
- Marker Paper (9”x12” preferable)
- Pentel Presto Jumbo or equivalent (fine-point rollertip white-out)
Digital
A trial version of Glyphs will be provided for the duration of the course. The course will be taught with Glyphs in mind, but you are welcome to use other type design software such as Robofont, FontLab etc.
Instructor
Jamie Chang
Jamie is the founder of Manic Type and is a typographer and type designer with over a decade of industry experience. Jamie is a graduate of Type@Cooper and holds an MA in Type and Media from The Royal Academy of Art in the Hague. Jamie teaches type and typography at OCAD University and has previously taught online at TypeElectives.
